BRCC U15's played host to local rivals Addingham this weekend. The weather played its part this week and stayed fine for what proved to be a bit of a formality in all fairness.

Captain 'F' lost the toss with Addingham deciding to Bat first. Pete Taylor had prepared a 'Road' of a wicket and the Addingham openers took full advantage plundering 14 runs from 'Nay Nay' Procter's first over, the 2nd ball being hooked for a lovely 6. Many teams & captains may well have panicked at this stage, but not Captain 'F' bringing on Myles 'smiles' Locke who was rewarded almost immediately for good line and length with the prize wicket of Addinghams talented left handed opener. The main threat gone, the lads settled into a rhythm and took wickets on a regular basis with some decent deliveries in amongst some distinctly average stuff!! (18, Yes ‘eighteen’ wides, that’s 3 extra overs we bowled!!) The fielding too was efficient enough without being amazing, Sam Brooksbank and Rhino Grange being the pick of the bunch. Addingham finished their innings with a disappointing 67.

Robbie ‘Texas’ Oldham was back this week and opened the batting with regular Pete ‘the Hewitt. On a great batting track the opposition were going to have work hard to defend 67. They started well and it wasn’t long before Mr Hewitt was trudging back to the pavilion after playing across the line to a straight ball and being bowled. In strode you know who! With the two Robbies in the middle Addingham’s job just got a whole lot tougher with some lovely nudges, good running and sweet timed drives the visitors total looked woefully short of a challenge. The two Ronnies (sorry Robbies!) took BRCC to with a handful when Mr composed (Capt ‘F’)  tried to hook a bouncer into the tennis courts and was caught and bolwed by Mr Grange junior, oops!  In a promotion up the order ‘Rhino’ was given the job of finishing off the run chase, which he did, pulling a short ball for a quick run 2 and completing another comprehensive victory.

A comfortable, rather than outstanding, performance is a fair description.

Well done to all the boys......again!

Not sure I can but let me attempt to find one word that adequately describes the U15's performance today Umm.........Demolition. Crushing. Outstanding. Ruthless.......probably all in fairness!

Well where to start ? OK the beginning then! As 'captain fantastic' (Wobbly) and vice skip Sam 'watch out for that bench' Morris both arrived at Greenlane without much in the way of suitably white whites!the job of tossing up was left to impeccably turned out (as usual) Nathan 'Nay Nay' Procter who started the day well and won the toss and, in accordance with hispoorly turned out captains instructions, elected to bat first. The track looked very green and wasn't going to easy to bat on but out strode young Mr Hewitt with his partner, a rather scruffy Mr Morris to face the full force of Greenlanes bowling attack. Mr 'Scruffy' went to work immediately not bothering to have a look and dispatched his first ball for a crushing four through the covers. That moreorless set the tone and off we went, pouncing on anything short, wide, over pitched, crunching fours, quick singles, two's three's and even an all run four I think. Left handed opener Pete Hewitt also soon found his feet and played some great shots before unfortuantely being cut off in his prime by a suspect LBW decision. In strode Captain 'F' (the 'F' is for fantastic nothing else!!!) meaning we now had a right couple of scruffs in the middle! Mr Morris didn't let up and went about his business crunching that poor cricket ball to all corners. After finding his feet (after about 2 balls!) Captain 'F' treated the 100's of spectators to some totally sublime stroke play with the ball crossing the boundary rope on a regular basis. Both players reached magnificent 50's Capt. 'F' with a straight '6' - little poser! Unfortunately Mr Locke and Mr Snook didn't have the best of luck with the bat this week but their time will come! Matt Stephens and 'Rhino' Grange both contributed valuable runs toward the end and BRCC finished with a colossal 160.

Was this going to be enough ?

Last Sunday saw Brcc U15's take on an unknown North Leeds side at home.

The weather was, as is typical for this time of year, not great for cricket unless you like low cloud, grey skies & persistent rain! The home side, that us! all arrived on time (for a change) and in good spirits following back to back wins and wasted no time in donning whites and getting out on the astro with balls in hand! (Cricket balls!!).

'Na Na' Nathan Procter, smile on face as usual, was out there holding court and describing, in great detail, his heroics of the previous day playing for the 2nd team. For those of you who haven't heard.........he bowled well, fielded well and, most amazing of all, scored 19 not out................with a bat!!! So, those of you who thought young Mr Procter couldn't bat, think again! 'Na Na' is after the 'all-rounder of the year award' watch out 'Wobbly' Miller!

Things became a whole lot more interesting when the skipper tossed up with the opposition captain, lost again, but was put into bat first.......in fact, that was as exciting as it got. Following a very long, wet, hour of waiting, pacing, frequent trips out to the wicket with Mr Taylor and regular chats with the North Leeds coach, it was decided eventually decided that enough was enough.

Tough call but, thats cricket!

Thanks to all the guys for there prompt arrival and mature attitude to the cancelation.

See you all Thursday

Is there anything this young man can't do ? umm.................possibly remembering to buy the coaches lots of beers! and to answer his mobile phone when it rings!!

U15s Win again

On Sunday the U15's took on the Ollicanians away (in Ilkley!)

On a sunny, but blustery cold day, BRCC were put into bat by an obviously confident captain. However, with 'Wobbly' Miller in great touch with the bat, and fresh from a magnificent 28 not out for the 1st team the day before, this could have proved to be a bold, but ultimately, bad decision!

Opening this week were Pete Hewitt and 'Texas' Oldham.  Unfortunately Pete is now learning that opening the batting can be a difficult balance between patience and shot playing, when early in his innings he followed a wide ball, edging it to the keeper for a duck. In strode the man of the moment 'Wobbly' Miller with 'trusty blade' in hand and immediately looked in a different class leaving the wide balls with style and stroking the loose deliveries with confidence. 'Texas' and 'Wobbly' both looked imperious and the score motored along at pace until the captain misjudged a drive and edged it the keeper. 'Texas' held the innings together with a succession of partners, which included Harry Appleby who turned out at late notice and played a 'blinder' contributing 23 vital runs.BRCC finished the innings with a slightly disappointing 110 on the board.

Was this going to be enough ? or had we again failed to capitalize on a great start and fallen short of a winning total ?

The Ollicanains batsmen started well and against some 'reasonable' bowling batting patiently and edging themselves toward an important local derby victory. On came Pete Hewitt, who is quickly becoming an important all-rounder, to bowl his left arm over spin. Bowling a tight line and length he managed to slow down the runs. The runs almost stopped altogether when 'Rhino' Grange came on and bowled 4 magnificent overs for just 5 runs, putting BRCC right back in the game. He didn't take any wickets but in a 20 over game, it is just as important to stop the opposition scoring. Well done the 'Rhino' who, according to Pete Taylor, played an integral part in what turned out to be a good victory in a very close contest against disciplined opposition.

It was a good effort from all concerned and we owe special thanks to both Josh Stephens who again turned out at short notice and the sorely missed Harry Appleby who played an amazing part in the game despite not having played for almost a year. Just shows ' talent is permanent' Harry.

We have a big game next weekend when we entertain North Leeds so don't get carried away boys, we have lots of work still to do!

Ben Rhydding 110 for 8  20 ovs - R Oldham 32, H Appleby 23*, M Stephens 13; D Martel 4 for 13

Olicanians 103 for 6  20 ovs - G Gamble 43, J Waring 14* ; R Miller 4 for 10, P Hewitt 1 for 14, N Procter 1 for 22

BRCC won by 7 runs
