BRCC U15’s took on local rivals Addingham last Sunday and proved they're becoming a force to be reckoned with this season!
After so much rain the wicket was, as expected, damp and was going to be difficult to score on but, such is the confidence in his team, captain H won the toss and elected, rather surprisingly, to bat first………umm, to say I wasn’t sure about that decision would be an quite large understatement but he’s the captain!!
Out went Mr Thorp and Mr Grange who are already proving to be quite a potent opening partnership. Well, it might have been a difficult wicket to bat on but you’d never have guessed, off they went in their usual confident way. Ben guiding the ball around the park with great skill whilst Dan, in his usual flamboyant manner, latched onto anything short, wide or over pitched and despatched it. All was going to plan as BRCC continued to build a sound platform when young Mr Thorp tried to sweep a fullish ball and was bowled. Captain H joined Dan in the middle and the total continued to grow at a good rate, Dan reached his 3rd fifty in as many weeks without even the audible support of his travelling groupies who were obviously getting there jollies elsewhere this weeks! Mr Duxbury, followed soon after by Mr Mitchell, joined the captain in the middle, but didn’t stay long and the innings began to stutter. No. 6 this week was Tom Revell whose remit was simple, to stay out there and support Mr Hewitt. This worked well for a while with Tom batting sensibly and giving Pete the strike whenever possible, and for his part Pete opened his shoulders and smashed a fine, quick-fire 27 before being “synically” run-out! The innings finished on 118 for 4 which, given the difficult conditions was a great effort all round. The bowlers started well with both Dan and Tom holding a good line & length making it difficult for the Addingham openers to stay up with the required run rate. Nevertheless the young batsmen stuck to the task and took the runs when offered and managed to survive the usually lethal BRCC opening bowlers. On came Jack Buckley who overcame early nerves to take the important first wicket with the score on 33 and that seemed to open the flood gates. Young bowling sensation Ben Ravensdale made short work of the Addingham middle order and finished with figures of 3 for 2 from 4 with 2 maidens. The captain bought himself on to join the wicket fest and returned figures of 3 for 10 from 3. Addingham lost all 10 wickets for just 17 runs and finished with just 50. The great bowling was supported by some excellent fielding, especially worthy of a mention are Mr Mitchell behind the stumps who is really starting to look the part and was instrumental in 3 stumpings, and Jake Duxbury who fielded magnificently and was involved in one of the two run-outs.
Great effort all round guys and thanks for the, relatively stress free, victory this week.
