BRCC U15’s took on North Leeds on Sunday and played on the Oval in Roundhay Park in glorious sunshine, which makes a change!
The wicket was less than impressive and was very soft and barely distinguishable from the rest of the ground apart from the fact that there were some stumps at either end! The team were missing there talisman opener Ben Thorpe this week so a lot depended on the Captain and the inform Mr Grange. Captain H lost the toss (as usual) and we were asked to bat, no surprise there then! The captain opened this week with Dan and despite the very unpredictable wicket and some slightly wayward bowling they batted carefully and made steady progress. The first wicket came with the score on an impressive 66 when the captain mistimed a shot and was caught and bowled. In walked Mr Kizza Mitchell promoted up the order to try to stay with Mr Grange, who was after his 4th consecutive fifty, poser! Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and on 42 Dan played a trademark drive on the offside and we all watched in amazement as the close in fielder stuck out a hand and took a great one handed catch. The rest of the batsmen did very especially when you take into account that, with such a reliable opening pair, many of them don’t often get the chance to bat. Left hander Roam Hamilton did very well picking off anything down the leg side and we finished with a very creditable 105.
The wise old coach, that'll be me then! gave some simple instructions to the bowlers to bowl straight and full and guess what………. that was, with the exception of a couple of balls, exactly what they all did, fantastic! Pete used 7 bowlers in all and the home side had no answer to the accurate line and length and some superb fielding. There were, I think 6 catches, 4 of which were taken by the captain and 2 of those were fantastic low catches. The best though was a stunning diving one handed effort from Pat Bibbey. The reward for their efforts was to dismiss North Leeds for just 59 and to register another convincing win.
Great effort by all involved
