Tuesday 12th May brought a BRCCW&G XI to Glasshouses in Nidderdale on a beautiful evening at one of the prettiest grounds you could ever wish to play at. From the car it looked a perfect night for a game. However once we stepped out it was different - there was a bitterly cold lazy wind.
Skipper Steff Peel lost the toss and BRCC were inserted by the opposition. Given the temperature their choice to field and bowl in the remaining sunlight looked like a shrewd move. Openers Naimee Pratt and Floz Haines set to and built a solid platform. Congratulations to our first half century of the season to Naimee who was first out for 60 and was supported very well by Floz with her 22. With the fall of the first wicket Steff went to the crease and BRCC finished with a highly competitive 104 for 2.
After a quick turn around BRCC took the field in shade and the cold wind made bowling and fielding difficult. Glasshouses openers started at a cracking pace - enjoying the pace from Naimee and Lauren Oxoby's quicker opening spells. Switching to the gentler pace of Chloe Dinsdale and Florence Haines slowed the run rate and the game became tense as Glashouses opener fell from a leading edge to Chloe exposing a new batter to guide them home with just an over to go - 105 for 3.
This was a much better performance all round by al the team, some excellent fielding included and provides much encouragement for the future.
Thanks to Glasshouses Ladies for a warm welcome and the warmth of the pub after.
Result: BRCCW&G lost by 7 wickets.
